Oak Grove United Methodist Church is a country church situated in one of the many growth corridors on the outskirts of Charlotte, NC. The traditional makeup of its membership has been one of family generations, however, the encroachment of urban growth has affected this community via intrusion of light industry and the influx of young families that look to the week-long support of the church for spiritual, social and family growth. The open space of the architecture surpasses the programmatic requirements and is to create a ranging of activities within the “negative space” of the architectural “city wall”; the inner court. Fellowship and Safe-Harbor have become the mission focus of this small community church.
