Swinburne Addition

The program consists of the renovation of an existing kitchen, a new dining room and new half bathroom. From the exterior, a separation is created by means of a metal gasket that visually creates a break from the existing house. The addition does not attempt to compete with the existing house but instead complement it with subtle textures and form. To make the space feel larger, a shed roof was utilized sloping up toward the sky. This directs the eye upwards and allows full height French doors at the end wall drawing light back into the house. The extension of the roof provides shade from direct sunlight in the summer and cover over a deck that extends outward towards the woods beyond.
